On November 25th Dr. Mercedes Bunz, director of the Hybrid Publishing Lab of the Leuphana University in Germany, will speak on ‘On the Digitalization of Academic Publishing and the Future of the Book’.

Driven by digitalization, scholarly publishing is changing. On the one hand, different formats like collaborative writing, liquid books, and books sprints allow new and exciting possibilities of thinking together and producing books. On the other hand, we can’t deny that not the book but Wikipedia is at the heart of the university’s learning.

At the same time, the publishing businesses change their focus from delivering a product: the ‘book’ – towards delivering a service: ‘publishing’. What happens to books and research when they are driven by databases and scale? How does search affect the book? Mercedes Bunz will present an introduction to their findings.

All interested are welcome to attend.
